Simulation of Solvent Extraction Circuits for the Separation of Rare Earth Elements

نویسندگان

چکیده

The separation of Rare Earth Elements (REEs) is an important step in the valorization REE ore and aims at producing individual rare earth compounds for market. carried out industrially by solvent extraction (SX) using interconnected circuits consisting cascades mixer-settlers. design a circuit implies selection operating conditions number mixer-settlers required to achieve target degree purity separated elements. This work either piloting or mathematical simulation. Independent method, world expertise this area limited. paper describes simulation method requiring minimum calibration effort, which can be used complete plant. enables assessment effect per extraction, scrubbing stripping stage, as well pH aqueous solution organic-phase contents free loaded extractant on REEs. tool presented here has been developed from fundamental analysis chemical reactions involved process. Unlike most methods documented literature, requires no empirical calibration. proposed validated data laboratory batch tests with published continuous pilot industrial circuits. application illustrated planning test forthcoming 9-REE product SX

Separation and Recovery Process for Rare Earth Metals from Fluorescence Material Wastes Using Solvent Extraction

The separation and recovery of rare earth metals from fluorescence material waste was investigated by using solvent extraction with 2-ethylhexyl phosphonic acid mono-2-ethylhexyl ester in kerosene. Extraction equilibrium expressions were established for the trivalent metals (La, Ce, Eu, Tb, Y and Al) and divalent metals (Ca, Sr and Ba) for both single and multi components systems. The process s...

On the Extraction of Rare Earth Elements from Geothermal Brines

The availability of rare earth elements from primary resources has come into question in the last two decades. This has sparked various government and industry initiatives to examine potential rare earth element resources apart from virgin ore bodies. Geothermal fluids are potentially significant sources of valuable minerals and metals, while co-recovery with geothermal energy production would ...

Recovery and Separation of Rare Earth Elements Using Salmon Milt

Recycling rare earth elements (REEs) used in advanced materials such as Nd magnets is important for the efficient use of REE resources when the supply of several REEs is limited. In this work, the feasibility of using salmon milt for REE recovery and separation was examined, along with the identification of the binding site of REEs in salmon milt. Results showed that (i) salmon milt has a suffi...
